In New Delhi, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill expressed his appreciation for the Indian Armed Forces following the IPL's return after a brief halt due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The Titans achieved a remarkable 10-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, securing their place in the playoffs.
Post-match, Gill shared his gratitude on Instagram, stating, 'Cricket is back, but the true heroes have always stood their ground. A heartfelt thank you to our armed forces. Jai Hind.'
The IPL 2025 faced a temporary suspension on May 9 due to the geopolitical situation, but the tournament resumed with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, which unfortunately was interrupted by rain.
In a stellar performance, Gill partnered with Sai Sudharsan to achieve a remarkable 205-run partnership, scoring an impressive 93 runs off 53 balls, including three fours and seven sixes, at a strike rate exceeding 175.
Currently, Gill ranks second in the Orange Cap standings, amassing 601 runs over 12 innings with an average of 60.10 and a strike rate of 155.69, featuring six half-centuries and a top score of 93 not out.
During the match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to field first. After Delhi Capitals lost Faf Du Plessis early, KL Rahul and Abishek Porel contributed significantly with a 90-run partnership, helping DC post a total of 199/3.
Sai Kishore, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshad Khan each claimed a wicket for GT. However, DC's bowlers struggled against the consistent batting of Gill and Sudharsan, who both delivered outstanding performances, leading GT to victory with an over to spare. Sudharsan was awarded the 'Player of the Match' title.
With this win, Gujarat Titans secured their playoff spot with nine victories and three losses, totaling 18 points, while Delhi Capitals sit in fifth place with six wins and five losses, along with one no-result match, accumulating 13 points.
